The past several decades have seen significant advancements in cancer treatment, particularly with the development of targeted therapeutic options and personalized approaches to care.
As our tools to understand and treat cancer continue to improve, the opportunity to further evolve and expand our definition of people-centered care also grows. At Amgen, we believe this is not just an opportunity, but a responsibility shared by each of our team members and partners.
That’s why, this World Cancer Day, Amgen is proud to join the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) as it elevates the voices of people affected by cancer via its “United by Unique” campaign to advocate for a people-centered approach to cancer care.
What is people-centered care? The UICC defines people-centered cancer care as “an opportunity to refocus, rewire and rewrite how we think about cancer, to embrace people’s differences and to make sure that everyone is seen for who they really are and has access to the care they need.”

People Before Patients
Each person affected by cancer is unique, with different physical, mental and spiritual needs. But one thing is true across all ages, demographics and locations: we have hope for a better future.
People-centered care honors this hope by orienting itself around people rather than the disease. The first step in realizing people-centered care is ensuring the patient perspective is at the center of all we do.
United to Fight for People-Centered Cancer Care
Delivering truly people-centered cancer care requires more than just good science – it necessitates partnership across the healthcare community.
At Amgen, we are grateful for the partnership of many patient advocates who provide critical insights into the realities, hopes, challenges and priorities of those affected by cancer to inform better solutions for patients.

Local Impact, Global Change
Meaningful change starts with local action. By focusing on initiatives at the community level, we can address the unique challenges patients face and create a lasting impact globally.
Our teams around the world work with members of their patient and advocacy communities to foster people-centered care that can help improve both patient experiences and outcomes. These efforts, driven by a dedication to understand and meet patient community needs, lay the foundation for broader, systemic progress.
